TSG with emphatic, ten-goal win against Maria Alm

Hoffenheim defeated regional, Austrian side UFC Maria Alm by ten unanswered goals on Tuesday evening. The friendly against the sixth-division side was organised at the last minute on Monday. Manager Markus Gisdol wanted another chance to see some of his players in action. As expected, he sent two completely different teams onto the field for either half.

In the first half, new signing Anthony Modeste was involved, amongst others, and the Frenchman scored his first two goals for the club. In the seventh minute, Eugen Polanski played a through ball for the striker who left the host's goalkeeper with no chance, finishing from 16 yards out.

Hoffenheim proceeded to ruthlessly attack and with the picturesque alpine panorama in the background, the Bundesliga side applied pressure to the host's goal and kept them in their own half. Chances came almost minute after minute. Alongside Modeste, who scored to make it 3-0 after half an hour, Roberto Firmino and Sejad Salihovic were also looking threatening. The Bosnian got his goal in the 24th minute to make it 2-0 with a firmly struck free kick from the right-hand side.

Schipplock gets four

The eleven that took to the field for the second half were hungrier for goals. Niklas Süle made it 4-0 only three minutes after the restart before Sven Schipplock got in on the act. The striker then scored his second, Hoffenheim's sixth, in the 55th minute. Having been fouled in the box after a good solo run, Schipplock stepped up to comfortably convert the penalty.

Robin Szarka scored the seventh before Tobias Strobl added the eighth with 21 minutes left in the game. Schipplock found time to add two further goals, tapping into an empty net for the first before converting his second penalty of the day.

Gisdol pleased with performance

Markus Gisdol organised his team from the sidelines in both halves. Order, occupying the central role and keeping the number of touches to a minimum were the things he constantly reminded his players of.

Gisdol was pleased with his side's performance. “The players acted in the way I imagined they would. They were consistent, determined and applied pressure in attack, regardless of who scored and how many.”
