U21 action: Gregoritsch wins, defeat for Vestergaard

Two of Hoffenheim's squad represented their respective countries at U21 level yesterday evening. Austrian Michael Gregoritsch celebrated a win in his friendly, while Jannik Vestergaard suffered a defeat with the Danish team.

Gregortisch overcame Slovakia's U21 side with a slender 1-0 scoreline. The 18-year-old played 54 minutes before his father, Werner Gregoritsch, the manager, brought him off for tactical reasons. Austrian goalkeeper Samuel Radlinger was sent off and that meant Gregoritsch had to be replaced by substitute goalkeeper Richard Strebinger. Robert Zulj eventually scored the winner for Austria in the 66th minute.

Jannik Vestergaard suffered a 3-1 defeat to France's U21s. The central defender played 83 minutes before being substituted. “The French have a lot of good players in their team. In the first half, we managed to keep the game level but we found it difficult after the break,” said the veteran U21 defender to achtzehn99.de the morning after. “Despite the defeat, I'm happy with my own performance,” he revealed. Luca Digne, Florian Thauyin and Abdoulaye Doucoure scored for France, with Nicolai Brock-Madsen picking up Denmark's solitary goal.
