Pezzaiuoli tenure to be cut short in the summer
Manager Ernst Tanner had this to say about the decision: "The situation surrounding the team, following a managerial change and the departures during the January transfer window, certainly didn't make things easy for Marco Pezzaiuoli or the club. However, recent results and a lack of progress in recent weeks have led us to believe that we need a new man in charge come the beginning of next season. It's clear that this doesn't provide our players with an excuse, as there are no excuses given that they have a responsibility to go into the upcoming matches fully concentrated on achieving a successful result."
Marco Pezzaiuoli initially took over as the Hoffenheim head coach when Ralf Rangnick was relieved of his post in early January. He had previously been the Rangnick's assistant, before taking over the head coach role as 1899 attempted to make the transition as straightforward as possible for everyone involved with the club. Unfortunately it didn't quite go the way the Sinsheim side would have wanted given that they have only taken 12 points from a possible 36 since the winter break.
