The 26-year old, who has been at the club since 2002, apart from a half-month excursion elsewhere, has exclaimed his happiness at putting pen to paper on a new contract: "As a leader, being able to help and nuture the youth talents at the club, before helping them make the step up to the Bundesliga, is a very interesting task indeed." Herdling, who made one Bundesliga appearance last season, but plays a big role at the club as the co-manager of the Hoffenheim U-15's.
