TSG Hoffenheim extend Luca Philipp's contract
"Luca has shown not only last season that we can count on him 100%. He was an absolutely worthy stand-in for Oli during his injury and impressed with his strong performances," said Andreas Schicker, the Managing Director of Sport at TSG, who continued: "Luca is hard-working, willing to learn and enormously ambitious every day in training. In recent years in particular, he has established himself on a sporting level in the goalkeeping team that is spearheaded by our captain and first-choice keeper. He has also played an important role in our team unit for a number of years and his word carries weight in the dressing room. We're therefore delighted that we have been able to keep Luca at TSG for another year."
Luca Philipp moved from SGV Freiberg to TSG Hoffenheim's youth academy at the age of 12 and became one of the best young goalkeepers in his age group in Germany. Born in Stuttgart, he has been training with TSG's Bundesliga team since 2019 and became a permanent fixture in the first-team squad only one year later.
In September 2021, Philipp made his Germany U21 national team debut in the 3-1 win in Latvia under then DFB junior national team coach Stefan Kuntz. Three more international appearances followed. He has stood between the sticks 54 times for TSG Hoffenheim's U23s in the Regionalliga Südwest. His brother Tim, who is five years younger, also plays for TSG and is part of the Hoffenheim Regionalliga squad that has just been promoted to the third division.
Philipp made his professional debut in three competitions last season – the Bundesliga (six matches), the DFB-Pokal (one game) and the Europa League (one appearance). The 24-year-old keeper proved to be a strong and, above all, reliable replacement for TSG captain and Germany national team keeper Oliver Baumann, who was injured at the time.
