Defeat after half-time lead

A day to forget in Mainz: TSG Hoffenheim lost 4-1 (0-1) away to 1. FSV Mainz 05. Pavel Kadeřábek put TSG into a fortuitous lead courtesy of a header in the first half (19), but Mainz turned the match around with a two-goal salvo from Jonathan Burkardt (47) and Philipp Mwene (51) at the start of the second period. Brajan Gruda then decided the game with the goal for 3-1 in the 63rd minute, before Karim Onisiwo made it 4-1 shortly before the end (88).

Head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo did not make any changes to his team compared to the 3-1 victory against FC Augsburg and kept his trust in the same starting line-up as the week before.
