Two late goals conceded: TSG lose to Leverkusen

TSG Hoffenheim suffered a 2-1 (0-1) defeat away to Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Pellegrino Matarazzo's team produced a focused performance in defence in particular and were clinical in front of goal in the first period against the previously unbeaten league leaders. Maximilian Beier fired TSG in front following a one-two with Wout Weghorst (33). Leverkusen then pressed almost non-stop in search of an equaliser, but TSG defended with great passion. However, Bayer broke through the TSG defence late on and turned the game around through Andrich (88) and Schick (90+1) shortly before the final whistle.

Line-up

Head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo made two changes to his starting line-up compared to the 3-0 defeat to VfB Stuttgart: Andrej Kramarić and Ozan Kabak started in place of Kevin Akpoguma and Ihlas Bebou.

The scenario

TSG Hoffenheim went into the matchday in eighth position in the table, while Bayer 04 Leverkusen sat in pole position with a 10-point cushion over second place.

Moment of the match

Leverkusen's late winner through Patrik Schick rendered all of TSG's efforts over the previous 90 minutes futile – their passionate battling performance was not rewarded.

Number of the game: 39

TSG had the Werkself on the cusp of their first defeat of the season for a long time – but Leverkusen appear to be unbeatable this season. It was their 39th competitive game in a row without defeat.

Save of the day

Oliver Baumann showed all his class once again in the 76th minute: He initially made an outstanding save to keep out Patrik Schick's shot from five metres and then made another crazy reflex stop to save Amine Adli's follow-up.

Outlook

TSG Hoffenheim will play host to FC Augsburg next week. Kick-off is at 15:30 CET on Sunday (7 April).
