Surprise package from Switzerland

TSG Hoffenheim will round off their training camp with a friendly against Servette on Monday (16:00 CET). The side from the Swiss top flight are enjoying a great season in the Super League and are targeting a European berth.

With 16 rounds played, coach Alain Geiger's team currently occupy second spot in the Super League table. This form represents the continuation of an impressive rise that started with promotion in 2019. Under Geiger's leadership, the Geneva outfit have never finished below sixth place. However, they are already 10 points adrift of league leaders Young Boys.

The best-known player within the Swiss top-flight team's ranks is probably Gael Clichy, a former Arsenal and Manchester City player. There is also a German player in the squad: Patrick Pflücke, who came through the ranks at 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund. Head coach André Breitenreiter knows Servette from last season. He faced the club four times as FC Zürich coach and won on two occasions (plus one draw and one defeat).

TSG Hoffenheim will return home to Germany on Tuesday, with head coach André Breitenreiter's charges set to face their next friendly fixture on Saturday (14 January) when they travel to 1. FSV Mainz 05.
