Chance conversion the X-factor

The restart is approaching: TSG Hoffenheim will visit 1. FC Union Berlin for their first competitive game of 2023 on Saturday (15:30 CET / Live Ticker at tsg-hoffenheim.de). TSG have not always fared well against the capital club in recent times and will be hoping for change in fortunes at the "Stadion An der Alten Försterei".

Did you know that…

…TSG are on a four-match winless streak against Union?

TSG Hoffenheim came out on top in their first two Bundesliga fixtures against the Berlin outfit but have only managed two draws and two defeats since the 2020/21 season.

…Hoffenheim always score against Union Berlin?

TSG have scored in every one of their six Bundesliga matches against the "Iron Ones". Hoffenheim have not managed that against any other club currently in the Bundesliga.

…Union Berlin are a force to be reckoned with at home?

Coach Urs Fischer's charges are still unbeaten on home turf this season. Union only lost one game at the "Alte Försterei" in all of 2022 a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Dortmund in February 2022. The main reason for their successful form this term is their strong defence. Only FC Bayern Munich (13) and SC Freiburg (17) have conceded fewer goals than Union (20).

…the chance conversion could scarcely be more different?

While TSG spurned too many chances in the first 15 matches of the Bundesliga season and scored fewer goals than expected (xG of 23.9 compared to 22 goals), the situation at Union Berlin is completely different: the Berlin side have found the net 24 times, despite having an Expected Goals value of only 15.1.
