Breitenreiter: "Our approach is the right one"

TSG Hoffenheim will be away to Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday evening (20:30 CET / Live Ticker at tsg-hoffenheim.de). At the pre-match press conference, TSG head coach André Breitenreiter spoke about the opposition, the mood in light of recent results and settling into life in the Kraichgau.

André Breitenreiter on…

…the opposition: "We're up against a top European team; however, we want to get a good result there. We must acknowledge without envy that teams like Bayern and Leipzig are currently further ahead than us. Eintracht Frankfurt also play very consistently at a very high level. Nonetheless, I'm always convinced that we can be dangerous for any team. We continue to believe in that. Eintracht have many high-speed players and defend very well as a team. That's why they won the Europa League, have reached the last 16 of the Champions League and are having a very strong season in the Bundesliga too. Nonetheless, it is our intention to pick up points."

…possible advantages from Eintracht competing on multiple fronts: "If we've learned one thing from recent weeks, it's that the extra burden currently hardly plays a role. It doesn't matter who is playing internationally, they're always capable of rotating or playing to their limits again a short while later. Nowadays, it's no longer an advantage to play against a team that is also in international action."

…the mood in the camp in light of recent injuries and results: "We continue to have a very good atmosphere. In a process such as ours, there are always phases in which injuries and unlucky games can happen. We currently have many important players out, but we always find solutions. That means our many youngsters now have the opportunity to get more playing time. The mood remains good."

…the game against Leipzig: "I think you could already notice after the match that the injury to Grischa Prömel had gotten to me. It was an unfortunate accident, which surely not everyone got over so easily. Despite this double setback of Grischa's injury and the goal we conceded directly afterwards, we came back and scored the equaliser. But we then made too many mistakes; if you do that, it's not enough to beat teams like Leipzig.

…his first months at the club: "Within a few days, I had already determined that TSG Hoffenheim is a very special club. The many fantastic people here have made it very easy for me to settle in. It was absolutely the right decision to come to TSG. We're currently going through a phase where we're picking up too few points in one or two matches, but I'm continuing to really enjoy working with the lads here. If we continue to work diligently and hard, our luck will return. This approach is the right one and it will be successful."

The personnel situation:

Ozan Kabak is available after his suspension. Benjamin Hübner (fitness training), Ihlas Bebou (knee problems), Luca Philipp (finger injury) and Munas Dabbur (shoulder injury) will miss out, while Grischa Prömel is set for a long spell on the sidelines after breaking his ankle against Leipzig.

The opposition's form:

Eintracht Frankfurt are in good form and have taken 21 points from their last 10 rounds of Bundesliga matches more than any other team in that timeframe. The club also qualified for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.

The head-to-head record:

The record is even. The two teams have each won nine of their 26 previous meetings, while the spoils have been shared on eight occasions. Last season, there was a 3-2 victory for TSG in Sinsheim and a 2-2 stalemate in Frankfurt.
