Strong TSG battle to draw with FC Bayern

It was an action-packed top clash with a deserved reward, as TSG Hoffenheim held on for a 1-1 (1-1) draw with FC Bayern Munich. Christoph Baumgartner fired TSG into the lead on 32 minutes, but Robert Lewandowski hit back on the stroke of half-time (45+3). Bayern piled on the pressure in the second period but Hoffenheim earned their point thanks to a battling and strong footballing performance.

Personnel & tactics:

Head coach Sebastian Hoeness made two changes to the starting XI that beat 1. FC Cologne 1-0 last time out, with Kevin Vogt and Georginio replacing Kevin Akpoguma and Ihlas Bebou. Vogt played alongside Stefan Posch and Florian Grillitsch in a back three in front of goalkeeper Oliver Baumann, while Pavel Kadeřábek and David Raum started in the wide positions. Diadie Samassékou and Angelo Stiller kept their places at the heart of midfield, with Christoph Baumgartner and Andrej Kramarić playing slightly further forward behind lone frontman Georginio.

Ihlas Bebou came on for Georginio at half-time. TSG then made another substitution on the 61-minute mark, with Dennis Geiger replacing Samassékou. With around 15 minutes remaining, Kevin Akpoguma and Jacob Bruun Larsen came on in place of Kadeřábek and Baumgartner in like-for-like switches (74). Kramarić then made way for Munas Dabbur in stoppage time (90+3).

Moment of the match:

Around one minute before kick-off, the news was announced on the big screen that Andrej Kramarić had extended his contract until the summer of 2025. The Croat was loudly cheered by the fans – a goosebumps moment.

Number of the game: 6

The opener was already the sixth goal Christoph Baumgartner has scored this season. The Austrian only needs one more goal to equal his personal record of seven goals set in the 2019/20 campaign.

Line-ups:

TSG Hoffenheim: Baumann – Posch, Grillitsch, Vogt – Kadeřábek (Akpoguma, 74), Samassékou (Geiger, 61), Stiller, Raum – Baumgartner (Bruun Larsen, 74), Kramarić (Dabbur, 90+3) – Georginio (Bebou, 46)

FC Bayern Munich: Neuer – Pavard, Süle, Hernandez – Kimmich, Musiala (Sabitzer, 81) – Gnabry, Müller (Choupo-Moting, 81), Sané, Coman – Lewandowski
