Strong TSG battle to draw with FC Bayern
Personnel & tactics:
Head coach Sebastian Hoeness made two changes to the starting XI that beat 1. FC Cologne 1-0 last time out, with Kevin Vogt and Georginio replacing Kevin Akpoguma and Ihlas Bebou. Vogt played alongside Stefan Posch and Florian Grillitsch in a back three in front of goalkeeper Oliver Baumann, while Pavel Kadeřábek and David Raum started in the wide positions. Diadie Samassékou and Angelo Stiller kept their places at the heart of midfield, with Christoph Baumgartner and Andrej Kramarić playing slightly further forward behind lone frontman Georginio.
Ihlas Bebou came on for Georginio at half-time. TSG then made another substitution on the 61-minute mark, with Dennis Geiger replacing Samassékou. With around 15 minutes remaining, Kevin Akpoguma and Jacob Bruun Larsen came on in place of Kadeřábek and Baumgartner in like-for-like switches (74). Kramarić then made way for Munas Dabbur in stoppage time (90+3).
Moment of the match:
Around one minute before kick-off, the news was announced on the big screen that Andrej Kramarić had extended his contract until the summer of 2025. The Croat was loudly cheered by the fans – a goosebumps moment.
Number of the game: 6
The opener was already the sixth goal Christoph Baumgartner has scored this season. The Austrian only needs one more goal to equal his personal record of seven goals set in the 2019/20 campaign.
TSG Hoffenheim: Baumann – Posch, Grillitsch, Vogt – Kadeřábek (Akpoguma, 74), Samassékou (Geiger, 61), Stiller, Raum – Baumgartner (Bruun Larsen, 74), Kramarić (Dabbur, 90+3) – Georginio (Bebou, 46)
FC Bayern Munich: Neuer – Pavard, Süle, Hernandez – Kimmich, Musiala (Sabitzer, 81) – Gnabry, Müller (Choupo-Moting, 81), Sané, Coman – Lewandowski
Goals: 1-0 Baumgartner (32), 1-1 Lewandowski (45+3)
The first big chance of the match: Posch wins the ball back from Sané and TSG counter quickly. Georginio plays in Kramarić, who turns inside his marker but he cannot beat Neuer and his second attempt is blocked.
A cross from the left finds its way through to the back post, where Müller makes contact from close range but Baumann makes a strong stop.
Brilliant attack by TSG: Kadeřábek is played in by Baumgartner and manages to poke the ball into the path of Georginio, who turns Süle and tries to get a shot away but unfortunately misses. A good opportunity.
TSG counter in front of their own fans: Vogt surges forward and plays the ball left towards Kramarić, who spots Raum on the overlap. The Germany full-back delivers a perfect ball towards the back post, where Baumgartner is on hand to direct it slightly fortuitously into the net.
Bayern level on the stroke of half-time: Lewandowski wins the aerial battle in the middle and heads a corner-kick high into the net. Baumann gets an outstretched hand to the ball but cannot stop it from going in.
Bayern mount a brilliant attack but Baumann makes a strong save to keep out an effort from Sané, who had attempted to catch the goalkeeper wrong-footed.
A misplaced pass by Raum puts Gnabry clean through on Baumann, but – fortunately for TSG – the forward sees his shot come back off the far post.
What a moment. Müller is clean through and beats Baumann, only for Posch to slide in and make a sensational goal-line clearance.
And now TSG have the chance to take the lead: Bruun Larsen is played in behind and has the vision to pick out the completely unmarked Kramarić on the line, but his shot is too central and Neuer makes the save.
Big opportunity for Bayern: Choupo-Moting is unmarked at the back post but heads the ball wide. Let-off.
