TSG come from behind to win in Wolfsburg
Personnel and tactics:
Head coach Sebastian Hoeness made two changes to the side that beat Arminia Bielefeld 2-0. Andrej Kramarić and Stefan Posch came into the starting line-up to replace Dennis Geiger and Florian Grillitsch, who were both sidelined due to suspension. Posch, Kevin Vogt and Benjamin Hübner formed the back three in front of goalkeeper Oliver Baumann. Diadie Samassékou anchored the base of midfield. Ihlas Bebou and David Raum started on the wings, Kramarić and Christoph Baumgartner roamed behind the striking duo of Munas Dabbur and Georginio.
TSG made their first change in the 43rd minute, as Vogt had to go off injured. He was replaced by Håvard Nordtveit. Pavel Kadeřábek came on in place of Dabbur for the second half, with Bebou moving up front. TSG made an attacking substitution with 20 minutes remaining: off came Samassékou und Posch to be replaced by Sebastian Rudy and Jacob Bruun Larsen (70). Five minutes before full-time, Kevin Akpoguma came on to help shore up the defence. He replaced Georginio. (86)
Moment of the match:
The equaliser: various TSG substitutes linked up to make it 1-1. Pavel Kadeřábek headed a Sebastian Rudy long-ball into the middle, where Jacob Bruun Larsen was on hand to finish with a spectacular scissor-kick into the far corner (74).
Number of the game: 9
Bruun Larsen's goal was the ninth scored by a substitute for Hoffenheim this season. TSG have more goals from substitutes than any other team in the league. 18 points after going behind is another league-leading statistic.
VfL Wolfsburg: Casteels – Lacroix, Bornauw (83, F. Nmecha), Brooks – Baku, Arnold, Vranckx (64, Gerhardt), Roussillon (90+2 Bialek) – Philipp (64, Lukebakio), Kruse – Wind
TSG Hoffenheim: Baumann – Posch (70, Bruun Larsen), Vogt (43, Nordtveit), Hübner – Bebou, Samassékou (70, Rudy), Raum – Kramarić, Baumgartner – Dabbur (46, Kadeřábek), Georginio (86, Akpoguma)
Goals: 1-0 Wind (36), 1-1 Bruun Larsen (74), 1-2 Kramarić (78)
The first good chance of the match: after a free-kick the ball lands at the feet of Bebou, who has an effort on goal. Arnold is able to block on the line, the ball then rebounds back to Bebou but his second effort flies over the bar.
TSG are caught on the break. Philipp squares it to Wind near the edge of the box, who curls the ball perfectly into the right corner. From nowhere, it's Wolfsburg who have the lead.
A big chance for an equaliser: Raum curls a free-kick delivery onto the head of Hübner, but the captain isn't quite able to direct it enough and it's a relatively simple save for Casteels.
Wolfsburg launch a counter down the other end. Wind squares to Roussillon, whose initial effort is saved by Baumann. He gets another chance on the follow-up but can't make the most of it.
What a goal! The ball is launched forward to Kadeřábek, who heads it across the area. Bruun Larsen lines it up and then fires a delightful scissor-kick into the far corner.
TSG get forward on the break. Raum delivers a low cross into the area, Baumgartner can't get anything on it, but the ball runs through to the perfectly-placed Kramarić, who finishes from close range with his left foot. The game has been completely turned on its head.
Wolfsburg looked to have struck back, but Baumann denies them with an excellent save. Wind gets a strong head on an Arnold corner, the ball is destined for the corner of the net, but the TSG keeper reacts well to palm the ball to safety with his left hand.
