Bogarde to join FC Groningen on loan

Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim have loaned defender Melayro Bogarde to Dutch top-flight outfit FC Groningen until the end of the season. The 19-year-old Netherlands U21 international has a contract in the Kraichgau until the summer of 2024.

"Melayro is a highly talented young player who has already demonstrated his abilities in the Bundesliga and the Europa League," said director of football Alexander Rosen. The competition for places in TSG's Bundesliga squad is "especially pronounced in his positions, hence why he did not get the playing time he needs for his development in the first half of the season. That's why we decided together with the player to take this step."

The versatile defender joined the TSG Hoffenheim U17s from Feyenoord in the summer of 2018. Within two years, Bogarde had been promoted to the senior squad. The Dutchman was handed his debut when he was included in the starting XI for the 1-0 away win against 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the second half of the 2019/20 season. He has represented the Dutch Football Federation at all youth levels from U15 onwards. In total, he has played 11 Bundesliga matches, 2 DFB-Pokal ties and four Europa League games for Hoffenheim.
