Raum & DFB miss out on quarter-final berth

The German Olympic team were held to a 1-1 draw by Ivory Coast in their final group game, meaning they have missed out on a place in the competition's knockout stages. TSG player David Raum again played the full 90 minutes in the third and final group game.

Coach Stefan Kuntz's team fell behind after a 67th-minute own goal from Benjamin Henrich (RB Leipzig) in the Miyagi Stadium in the Japanese city of Rifu. Though Eduard Löwen of VfL Bochum levelled the scores with a spectacular free-kick in the 73rd minute of the match, a point was unfortunately not enough to take the DFB team into the quarter finals at the Olympic Games. TSG new signing David Raum again played the full match at left-back. Germany ended the group stage in third place with four points on the board, while the draw put Ivory Coast, who finished in second place with five points, into the last eight of the competition.

In the other game, Brazil beat Saudi Arabia 3-1 to ensure they finished as Group D winners.
