Kadeřábek: "We want to go on the attack again"

Pavel Kadeřábek returned to TSG Hoffenheim on Tuesday, having been granted an extended holiday after the European Championship. In an interview with tsg-hoffenheim.de, the Czech right-back spoke about the first days following his return to TSG, the EUROs and his objectives for the season.

Pavel, you've been back in the TSG camp since Tuesday. How have the first days been?

"Andrej Kramarić and I are being gradually eased back into the team. We've only completed parts of the team training sessions in the first few days. But it has of course been great to see the lads again."

You reached the EURO quarter-finals with Czechia. How proud are you of your success?

"We were of course delighted that we progressed so far, but I believe that we could've gone even further. We were close to getting the equaliser against Denmark in the quarter-final. However, it is a major success for Czechia."

You featured in one of the five matches. How unusual was that situation for you to watch games from the bench?

"I wasn't used to that feeling. I have previously always played when I've been fit. But I accepted it and was ready when I was called upon. I was then thrown in at the deep end in the last 16 and played in an unfamiliar position on the left flank. But in the end, the team's success is all that counts."

Now your focus is back on TSG. How much are looking forward to the Bundesliga starting?

"There's obviously great excitement. TSG don't want to rush anything with Andrej and myself. Let's see whether we're ready for a brief appearance at the season opener on Saturday. But the main focus is on the competitive matches; we want to be fully fit and ready."

What are your goals for the season?

"I was injured for a long period last season. That was unusual for me. Now I want to retain my fitness and play as many matches as possible. We want to perform better as a team than we did last season. We want to go on the attack again. We have the quality in our squad to do so."
