Get moving against cancer: campaign to support NCT Heidelberg

This year's ''Rowing against cancer,'' charity regatta had to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. To make up for the lost donations, the Leben mit Krebs (Living with Cancer) foundation, the National Centre for Tumour Diseases (NCT) Heidelberg and the Else Kröner-Fresenius-Foundation are calling for people to get active for a good cause. Using the free "Beweg Dich gegen Krebs" (Get moving against cancer) app, participants can record their own sporting activities over a four week period. The campaign begins on Friday 16 October. From this day on, every participant should get active in as many ways as possible. Once the campaign has come to an end, the personal exercise input can be converted into a donation to help sports and exercise projects at the NCT in Heidelberg.

In the "Get moving against cancer" charity campaign, the organisers encourage all participants to get physically active. Whether it be cycling, fitness training, swimming or rowing - everything is possible; this means that, in addition to the good cause, the health of all participants is also being promoted. Additional sponsors and supporters are of course welcome to get involved. The main sponsor of the ''Get moving against cancer,'' campaign is SNP Schneider-Neureither & Partner SE. TSG Hoffenheim are also proud to support this admirable initiative.

The "Beweg Dich gegen Krebs" app can be downloaded for free at beweg-dich-gegen-krebs.de. The campaign will start on 16 October. Participants can share their personal experiences on social media using #bewegdichgegenkrebs. ''In 'Get moving against cancer', each and every person can take part in physical activity either as an individual or as part of a team of four,'' says Joachim Wiskemann, sports scientist and director of the Oncological Sports and Exercise Therapy Group at NCT Heidelberg and Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD). Special prizes will act as extra motivation for participants to get active and be generous when making donations. The proceeds from individual, team and sponsor donations will go towards the "Exercise and Cancer" patient programme at NCT Heidelberg.

"Experience from day-to-day medical practice shows us that there is a high demand for qualified exercise programmes for oncological patients. The donations will help us to continue and expand the exercise programme at NCT Heidelberg," says Dirk Jäger, managing director at NCT Heidelberg and head of medical oncology at UKHD.
