Baumann: "A frustrating defeat"

Here's what the players and coach had to say about the 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

Oliver Baumann: "It was even for 90 minutes, in my opinion. It was just a question of which way the game would go. It didn't get any easier for us once Dortmund had made their substitutions. They brought on players of enormous quality. The goal we conceded was rather bizarre. Things like that are frustrating. There was more in it for us, I think, because this was a game between equals."

Christoph Baumgartner: "I had a good opportunity to equalise, but unfortunately I didn't connect optimally with the ball and struck it rather poorly. There was more in this game for us today, because we had the better chances at exactly the time when Dortmund were coming back into it. But if you don't score goals, you'll lose a game like this. The fixture list, with all the international fixtures we have to play as well, is demanding. But we footballers love to play. What awaits us is going to be extreme. We need to deal with it; we can't change it."

Robert Skov: "We were without very good players. Naturally, we missed them. We weren't that clinical today. You need to be clinical in front of goal if you want to win games. We need to work on that."

Sebastian Hoeness: "Our objective today was to frustrate Dortmund. We did that well, especially in the opening 45 minutes, but after that it was an open game. We were lacking a bit of penetration in our play out from the back. In the first half, we didn't manage to turn our good chances into a goal. We cannot allow ourselves to concede a goal like that. We hadn't given away any clear chances up until that point. It was an open match up until that point."

Lucien Favre (Borussia Dortmund head coach): "We'll keep working on ourselves. But all 11 players need to work together to make it work. We're not doing that too badly at the moment. Marco Reus was injured for a week after the Freiburg match and couldn't consistently train with the team. Erling Haaland has played three times for Norway in the past few days. Hence why both players only came off the bench. There'll be more corona cases to come. It's not good to travel at present. We all need to remain vigilant."
