Schreuder: "We want to make Dortmund nervous"

With TSG Hoffenheim preparing to face Borussia Dortmund in their final Bundesliga fixture of the calendar year on Friday (20:30 CET/Live Ticker at achtzehn99.de), head coach Alfred Schreuder spoke at the pre-match press conference about the celebrations in Berlin, BVB and the personnel situation.

Alfred Schreuder on…

…BVB: "Dortmund are a top club. They're the biggest club in Germany along with Bayern Munich. We'll need to be very courageous and defensively stable. We'll try to keep the ball within our own ranks in order to make Dortmund nervous. BVB have incredible quality and great tempo going forward. It'll be an interesting match for us."

…former TSG man Nico Schulz: "Nico developed extremely well in Hoffenheim – as many players have done recently. It was difficult for him at the start but then he settled in and played his way into the team. He's now a Germany international. In Dortmund he has competition from within the squad, but he's a great player."

…the personnel situation: "The lads generally came out of the Berlin match unscathed. But it's normal that players are still carrying a few niggles after having only a two-day break. That said, I'm operating under the assumption all the lads who were involved on Tuesday can play."

…the celebrations after the second goal in Berlin: "At that point, we had the feeling that the game was won. We were absolutely delighted about that. We battled for it. The team embraced the match and the fight superbly. I'm also absolutely delighted that it was Christoph Baumgartner who got the goal. He's earned that."

…the game in Berlin: "It was very important for us to return to winning ways. It wasn't our best display when in possession, but there was a good mix to the way we went about it. The players fought for each other and showed super commitment. We'll need more of that against Borussia Dortmund. We need to be a bit better in possession, but the defensive aggression was very good."

The social media fan question of the week:

What are your hopes for the second half of the season?

"That the lads continue to develop in the same vein. The team spirit is very good. The young players are developing very well. In the case of new signings, they usually tend to get even better after the winter break. But ours have already played a lot in the first half of the season."

Head-to-head record:

TSG are unbeaten in their last three matches against Borussia Dortmund. At home, that run stretches back six games (one win and five draws). All in all, however, it is BVB who have the better head-to-head record with 10 wins, nine draws and five defeats.

The opposition's form:

Coach Lucien Favre's charges are unbeaten in five competitive matches – four in the Bundesliga and one in the Champions League. During that period the Black & Yellows have four wins and one draw. However, they did throw away a 2-0 lead to draw 3-3 with RB Leipzig in midweek.
