Euro qualifiers: Stafylidis beats Bičakčić

A total of 10 TSG Hoffenheim players have been in action with their national teams over the course of the international break. Below, achtzehn99.de gives you the lowdown on how those players fared and performed with their countries over the past week.

There was cause for celebration for Konstantinos Stafylidis, who got the better of TSG team-mate Ermin Bičakčić as Greece beat Bosnia & Herzegovina 2-1 (1-1) in a Euro qualifier. Both Hoffenheim players started the match and played the full 90 minutes, with Stafylidis even wearing the captain's armband for his country. With the game evenly poised at 1-1, an 88th-minute own goal from Kovacevic gifted Greece a late winner. The result means Bosnia & Herzegovina only retain slim hopes of successfully qualifying for Euro 2020. Despite the victory, Greece are too far behind the qualification berths in the group and are already out of the running.

Elsewhere in that group, Armenia suffered a setback in their bid to reach Euro 2020. A team featuring Hoffenheim striker Sargis Adamyan, who played the full 90 minutes, lost 3-0 in Finland and now, along with Bosnia & Herzegovina, find themselves five points adrift of the Fins in second place. A win would have seen Armenia leapfrog Finland and put themselves in an optimal position to reach the finals.

Meanwhile, Håvard Nordtveit did not feature at all as Norway drew 1-1 in Romania in a Euro qualifier. But Robert Skov did play the full game as Denmark thrashed Luxembourg 4-0 in a friendly, notching one assist in the process.

ILKAY ELMKIES MAKES DEBUT

In other news, Ilkay Elmkies was handed his debut for the Israel senior side. The 19-year-old TSG academy product, who plays for the Hoffenheim U23s, came off the bench in the 76th minute in his country's 3-1 victory over Latvia.

There was, however, a heavy defeat for Christoph Baumgartner and the Austria U21s, who lost 5-1 to their English counterparts. The TSG midfielder featured in the starting XI and scored his country's only goal.
