Schreuder: "Frankfurt will play aggressively"

It's almost time for Matchday 1 of the 2019/20 Bundesliga season, with TSG Hoffenheim set to open their campaign with a trip to Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday (15:30 CET/Live ticker at achtzehn99.de). Alfred Schreuder spoke in his pre-match press conference about his debut as the TSG head coach, opponents Frankfurt and new signing Diadie Samassekou.

Alfred Schreuder on…

…his first Bundesliga match as a head coach: "It's a very special occasion for me. I'm looking forward to the start of the Bundesliga. As a Dutchman, it's something special to be the head coach of a club like TSG Hoffenheim."

…the opposition: "Frankfurt have a very good team that has done a very good job over the past year. They have the advantage that they've already played a few competitive matches this season. Our coaching staff was in Frankfurt yesterday and we watched the Europa League qualifier against Vaduz. They're very well organised and can play good and aggressive football. Frankfurt will be very versatile."

…the personnel situation: "Andrej Kramaric is not yet fit and Christoph Baumgartner is suspended. Ishak Belfodil trained today and looked very good. We'll have to see tomorrow whether he makes the squad. Leonardo Bittencourt also trained with the squad this week. The match might come too soon for Florian Grillitsch."

…new signing Diadie Samassekou: "We'll see in training tomorrow whether he makes the squad. He's a very good defensive midfielder who is also skilful on the ball. He's a very interesting player and we're absolutely delighted that he decided to join us."

…what he learnt from the Würzburg game: "The way we played in the first 65 minutes when we had the ball is very important for us. We played well defensively then too. But obviously Frankfurt are a different kettle of fish."

The social media fan question of the week:

Do you go on caravan holidays like many of your countrymen and women?

"I don't personally. But in the Netherlands many people go away in caravans."

Head-to-head record:

Overall, TSG have a positive head-to-head record against Eintracht Frankfurt, with eight wins, seven draws and five defeats from their previous meetings. However, they lost both matches last term (2-1 and 3-2). Hoffenheim's last victory over Frankfurt came on 30 April 2017, when they beat the Eagles 1-0.

The opposition's form:

Adi Hütter's charges have already played five competitive matches due to Europa League qualification and they have won every single one.
