TSG obtains interim injunction against Viagogo

As part of its broad strategy to tackle the black market for tickets, Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim is stepping up the fight against the sale of overpriced tickets. This strategy includes an uncompromising approach against Viagogo, a platform based in Switzerland that is used, among other things, to sell tickets for TSG home games at horrendous prices. The District Court of Heidelberg has now issued an interim injunction banning Viagogo from advertising tickets for TSG home games at what it falsely alleges to be original prices.

"Our aim remains to offer fair ticket prices to all TSG fans. Hence our uncompromising approach against excessively priced tickets online. Based on our experience, Viagago repeatedly represents a major annoyance for many disappointed fans, who did not know the tickets they had bought there were overpriced," explained TSG's Head of Ticketing Thorsten Baller. Furthermore, it has consistently been observed that fraudsters seemingly target Viagogo as a platform to sell invalid or falsified tickets. Comprehensive investigations into this matter are currently being conducted by the authorities.

Lawyer Dr. Markus Schütz of the law firm SCHÜTZ Rechtsanwälte in Karlsruhe, which is supporting TSG in the fight against the black market for tickets, also issued a warning about buying tickets via Viagogo. "The site encourages consumers by questionable means to purchase regularly overpriced tickets. The advertisement of misleading original prices for TSG home games has now been forbidden by the court. Furthermore, tickets that are sold via platforms such as Viagogo may be blocked by TSG. However, the private transfer of tickets within the scope of the applicable rules and at fair prices (GTTC at https://www.achtzehn99.de/atgb/) does not represent a problem."

In order to make the private transfer as comfortable as possible, TSG is expecting to launch an official secondary ticket market in the third quarter of this year. This platform shall ensure that only valid match tickets are transferred and that it only happens at fair prices.
