"The excitement's building"

At the press conference before their UEFA Champions League home game against Manchester City (Tuesday, 18:55 CET), coach Julian Nagelsmann and goalkeeper Oliver Baumann spoke about the opposition, the personnel situation and the pre-match excitement.

Julian Nagelsmann on…

…Pep Guardiola: "It's my first time facing Pep Guardiola. In terms of his technical side, he's a good reference point. He's successful everywhere."

…the excitement levels: "We're looking forward to the match. At this stage there is a relatively normal atmosphere. The training session is more important at present. The excitement for the game will then go up a notch this evening."

…the personnel situation: "In the case of Kevin Vogt, the word after the Leipzig game was that he should be okay for tomorrow. But the pain means he won't be available. It'll also be very tight for the game against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday. None of the other players will be returning yet either. We still have enough players to put a good team on the pitch and to hurt the opposition."

…facing Manchester City: "It won't be a tactical battle. I'm very much assuming that Manchester City will focus on their strengths. We've thought out a good and courageous plan. Both clubs are on different levels. We need to show our excitement and courage. We need to get spells of possession, otherwise it'll be very difficult. Then we'll also have chances to score goals ourselves."

Oliver Baumann on…

…the match against Leipzig: "We've analysed the match against Leipzig and the others too. There was slightly less time than usual. Then from today at the latest there has been excitement for the match tomorrow. We'll try to approach the game so that we're on a good level emotionally and we give our best."

…participation in the Champions League: "The club has developed very well over the course of recent years and we've worked for the right to play in the Champions League, having narrowly missed out last year. It's naturally a dream to play in the Champions League. Our objective is to deliver our best-possible performance. We're looking forward to it."

…Manchester City: "They have an incredible amount of players with a very high quality. They're very dangerous with the players they have on the flanks. We'll try to get them under control. It won't be an easy task for our full-backs. Furthermore, they're a very strong team with regard to possession. Tomorrow will be all about implementing Julian's plan on the pitch. We'll try to play our game as best we can."

The opposition's form

Manchester City have made a strong start to the season, picking up six wins and a draw in their first seven matches of the Premier League season. The only competitive defeat for Pep Guardiola's charges this term came in the Champions League, where they were beaten 2-1 by Lyon on Matchday 1.

Head-to-head record

It will be the first meeting between the teams.
