#FCKTSG: "I am really looking forward to the game"

The first competitive match of the 2018/19 season is nigh. TSG will enter the first round of the DFB Cup against third division club 1. FC Kaiserslautern. In the pre-match press conference, head coach Julian Nagelsmann talks about his opponents, his objectives and the current personnel situation.

Julian Nagelsmann's view on…

… the opponent: "They've had a poor start to the league. There's a lot of pressure on them as they started the season as potential favourites, but results so far haven't reflected that. They're a team that has a lot of experience in the top two leagues, they can switch play and they have quality throughout."

… personnel: "Nadiem Amiri will be operated on today and will be out for three months thereafter. No players will return from injury to play against Kaiserslautern. In the case of Leo Bittencourt, who has been suffering muscle problems, we will have to see. Kerem Demirbay, Havard Nordtveit, Dennis Geiger, Lukas Rupp and Benjamin Hübner will not be available."

… the significance of the Cup: "I'll happily put €6 in the swear-jar for saying that the Cup has its own rules. Nevertheless, we know that there is a clear difference in class. We are well prepared and we want to achieve our Cup objectives."

… the excitement before the game: "It's a bit upsetting of course for the players who won't play. The pre-season was great, aside from friendly against Eibar. I'm really looking forward to the game and the season."

Past fixtures against Kaiserslautern:

TSG and FCK have met eight times in the past. TSG left the pitch as victors a total of six times and twice the fixture ended in a draw, making TSG unbeaten against Kaiserslautern. The last two meetings are particularly fond memories. In the relegation play-offs of 2013, TSG beat 1. FC Kaiserslautern twice to avoid relegation.

The opponent's form:

The season in the third division has already started. After being relegated from 2. Bundesliga last season, FCK is currently on 16th place. Despite an opening victory against 1860 Munich in front of 41,000 fans, head coach Michael Frontzeck's team has only managed to take three points in the third division. Last Saturday the Palatine team suffered a 2-0 defeat against Halle and dropped down to 15th place.
