Point after conceding early in Schalke

Hoffenheim prevented a third straight loss away from home after coming from behind to draw with Schalke. The home side took the lead through Alessandro Schöpfer but Sebastian Rudy ensured the game finished 1-1 after equalising ten minutes from time.

Squad and tactics

Pavel Kaderabek had to be replaced at short notice after becoming injured in the warm up and was unable to play a part on Sunday evening. Benjamin Hübner came back into the side after serving a suspension. Hübner joined Kevin Vogt and Niklas Süle in the back three in front of Oliver Baumann. Steven Zuber started on the left with Ermin Bicakcic on the right. Rudy sat in front of the defence in midfield with Kerem Demirbay and Nadiem Amiri ahead of him. Sandro Wagner and Marco Terrazzino led the line up front.


Bicakcic made way for Pirmin Schwegler in the first change after the hour. Rudy switched to the right as Schwegler took up his role in midfield. The next change came three minutes later, Amiri for Adam Szalai. The third and final change followed shortly after as Andrej Kramaric came on for Terrazzino.

 

Moment of the match

The equaliser. Zuber and Rudy exchanged passes on the right and after laying the ball off for the cross the latter ran into the box and chanced his arm. The ball came in and Rudy did the rest.

Number of the day

After conceding early on in the game Hoffenheim took control of the game and enjoyed 60% possession. The hosts also had more shots with 14 to seven and the attacks on goal paid off in the 79th minute, and the 13th shot of the day finally brought cause for celebration. Rudy was a deserving scorer on his 200th appearance for TSG.
