Copa: Vargas bags four as Chile fly into semis

Eduardo Vargas and Chile continue to have an excellent Copa America. They reached the semis thanks to a hugely impressive 7-0 win over Mexico, with Vargas bagging four of the goals.

Chile were dominant from the first whistle and took the lead after just 16 minutes thanks to a goal from Edson Puch. The Eduardo Vargas show got under way shortly before the break when he doubled the lead with a 44th minute strike. After the break he helped himself to three further goals (52’, 57’ and 74’). He is the 12th player to bag four goals in a Copa America game.

Alexis Sanchez had made it 3-0 just after the interval (49’) and he completed the rout with two minutes to go. Chile face Colombia in the semi-finals on 22nd June.
