Reaction to Hannover loss and staying up

We gathered the reaction following TSG’s 1-0 defeat in Hannover.

Julian Nagelsmann: Our points average in recent weeks offered a lot of promise, and now we’ve done it. I still feel somewhat annoyed though. We didn’t leave everything out there on the pitch today. We were lacking power. We didn’t score and we didn’t make the most of the space that Hannover gave us. I’m not the happiest person in the world at the moment, but tonight I can enjoy the fact that we are staying up. I’m not happy with the performance. We didn’t show enough emotion on the pitch. There’s one more thing I would like to say: what happened here before the game was incredibly emotional. I wish everyone here in Hannover strength.

Daniel Stendel: First of all, I would like to congratulate Hoffenheim on staying up after a difficult season. We wanted to kick on from our performances in recent weeks and bid farewell to our fans with a good showing, something we were able to do despite the heat. We gave TSG a lot of openings in the early stages. We were lucky not to go behind. The opener fell our way though after a good move. It was hard to keep Hoffenheim away from our goal in the second half. It was a close call, but we showed character, passion and heart to earn the win.

Kevin Volland: It wasn’t a nice feeling immediately after full time, but still, we’ve finally done it after a very turbulent season. Now we can enjoy the moment. We’ve put in some great performances in recent weeks, turning games on their head, so we’ve deserved to stay up. Julian has steadied the ship since his arrival.

Oliver Baumann: That was a weird one. I was annoyed after the final whistle because we didn’t get a result. I simply wasn’t happy with the game. The goal was a soft one and we should have scored ourselves. We were determined to win here today, but we’ve ended up having a nervy day. Fortunately, the other results have gone our way. I’ll have to wait for it to sink in, then I can start to feel happy.
