Ingolstadt match reaction

Here are thoughts from the mixed zone following TSG’s 2-1 home win over FC Ingolstadt.

Julian Nagelsmann: It was a hectic game, but we put in a decent performance. We knew that Ingolstadt would press a lot in our half and that we’d have to a find a solution to that, something we managed well at times. Then we had a poor spell where we conceded the goal, but we improved after that and levelling the scores before the break was vital. We should be taking one of those clear-cut chances we had in the second half, but fortunately one of our qualities in recent weeks has been grinding out the win. It’s a big three points for us, but it needn’t be the last of them – it’s still a tense affair.

Ralph Hasenhüttl: It was a high-intensity affair with lots of goalmouth action. We started well and scored an early goal. We maybe rested on our laurels after that though and gave our opponents a route back into the game. We made a few mistakes in our build-up play and couldn’t win the second ball anymore. Hoffenheim made the most of that and struck clinically. We had a good hold on the game after the break, up until the penalty that is, although Nyland made an outstanding save. We had so many chances ourselves that we should have won it. It’s something that happens a lot to us away from home. It is how it is though. We ended up conceding the winner instead.

Oliver Baumann: We allowed them to counterattack us too often in the first half and we couldn’t get a foothold. We pulled ourselves together though, got our teeth stuck into the game and put up a real fight in the end. You could see how much we wanted to win and we’re delighted that we were able to. We had enough chances after all, although Ingolstadt weren’t without theirs. I think the win is just about a fair result.

Nadiem Amiri: Frankfurt won too today so getting the three points was even more important and a crucial step. Now we have to follow up that result in Hannover.

Ermin Bicakcic: That was a true relegation battle and I’m happy that we were able to come away victorious. We had a lot of good goalscoring opportunities and I thought to myself, ‘When is the ball finally going to go in?’ However, we showed character and believed in the win until the end, and ultimately we rewarded ourselves with a scrappy three points.
