Fabian Schär: "Looking forward to the future"

Fabian Schär is one of three Swiss players in the TSG squad. The 23-year-old has completed his first few training sessions with his new teammates. He admitted that he was tired after the training camp in Westerburg, but added that he is “really enjoying being at the club”.

Your first few days here are over. How are you feeling?

Fabian Schär: I was a bit tired after the training camp. It was exhausting but I was fully aware that training wouldn’t just take place in Germany. You need things like that to get fully fit. It went well and I feel at home here. The lads made it easy for me to settle in. I now only need to find somewhere to live but I’m certainly looking forward to the future.

What are your thoughts on the Bundesliga?

Schär: The Bundesliga is a fantastic division and it’s always been my dream to play abroad, especially here. When you have the opportunity to make a move like this you need to grab it with both hands, which is what I did.

And what do you think about TSG?

Schär: The conditions that I’ve been greeted by here are excellent. I certainly feel that the club can continue to develop. The infrastructure here is fantastic. The players have everything at their disposal, which is extremely important for progression, and because of that, I feel joining TSG was the correct decision.

What are your goals?

Schär: I’m only thinking about pre-season at the moment. I want to get to know the lads properly, as some of them are still away. I came here to play in the Bundesliga and pit myself against some of the best players around. I want to establish myself in the side and to have a good season.

How far do you think you’ve developed so far in your career?

Schär: First and foremost, it’s important to recognise that the process never ends. I have played in continental competitions and for my country, so I am relatively experienced. However, I am only 23 so there is a lot of room for improvement. The conditions here will allow me to reach my potential.

Pirmin Schwegler and Steven Zuber are also Swiss and play for Hoffenheim. Did you speak to them ahead of the switch?

Schär: I spoke with Pirmin before I moved. They both helped me early on and I’m delighted to already have some friends at the club. They know me well and are able to give me advice when I need it.
