TSG had to settle for a point in the derby against SC Freiburg. After a quiet first half, Markus Gisdol's team upped the tempo in the second half. They created lots of chances but couldn't snatch victory.

Tactics and line-up:

After being sent home due to illness on Friday and leaving his assistant Frank Kaspari to field questions at the pre-match press conference, Markus Gisdol was given the all-clear to be on the touchline on Saturday.

There were two changes from the XI that started against VfB Stuttgart last weekend. Schipplock and Amiri dropped to the bench and were replaced by Salihovic and Modeste. Gisdol stuck to the team's usual 4-2-3-1 formation with Schwegler and Rudy sitting just in front of the defence and Modeste leading the line. It was the first time Oliver Baumann had returned to Freiburg following his transfer in summer.

Match highlights:

9th minute: It's the hosts who have made the brighter start to the game. After a one-two with Riether, Darida drills in a low shot on goal but former Freiburg keeper Baumann is equal to the effort. He gets down well to save and manages to grab hold of the ball before any Freiburg players can capitalise.

15th minute: Great effort! Modeste tries his luck with a shot from outside the area. It's a powerful strike but lacks direction so doesn't trouble Bürki.

25th minute: GOAL for SC Freiburg. 1-0: TSG have been under a lot of pressure so far in the game and it's the hosts who take a deserved lead. Schmid whips in a free kick to the back post. Höhn times his run perfectly, loses his marker Rudy and volleys into the far corner. Baumann could only watch on.

39th minute: GOOOAAALLLLL! 1-1: It's Volland with an absolute beauty of a strike to drag Hoffenheim back in to the game. His left-footed effort from outside the box rockets in to the top corner. Freiburg keeper Bürki didn't stand a chance.

48th minute: TSG have started so much better in this half. Firmino skips past two players and fires in a low cross. Modeste can't make contact but is flagged offside anyway.

52nd minute: Unbelievable! Thunderous shot from Polanski smashes against the post after Bürki somehow manages to get his fingertips to it. So unlucky but what a cracking save!

59th minute: Fantastic save by Baumann to deny Günter and keep the game level. He parries the Freiburg defender's fizzing effort before Kim clears.

65th minute: A Freiburg free kick cleared only as far as Sorg on the edge of the area. He connects sweetly with the ball and sends a volley goal-bound but it's straight into the arms of Baumann.

69th minute: Volland charges down the left and gets to the byline before pulling the ball back. Modeste misses the target and maybe should have left it for Firmino who was charging in unmarked.

83rd minute: Klaus gets to the byline and fires the ball across. His effort, from a very tight angle, smashes against the near post.

92nd minute: RED CARD! Torrejon lunges in and takes out substitute Elyounoussi. Gagelmann doesn't hesitate and sends Torrejon off to end this fiery and frenetic Baden derby.

Moment of the match:

In the 37th minute, referee Peter Gagelmann suddenly ran over to the fourth official and nobody knew why. He took a bottle of water and washed his eye out. There was a nice gesture from SCF manager Christian Streich who offered the referee the help of his medical team. In the end, Gagelmann was able to continue.

Number of the match: 60

TSG won 60% of their 1v1 duels in the Schwarzwald-Stadion – outstanding! It's just a shame that the team couldn't get the victory.
