Draw in opening friendly - #tsginrsa

TSG drew the first friendly at their winter training camp against South African top-flight side University of Pretoria FC 1-1. Adam Szalai gave TSG the lead in the High Performance Stadium, but they couldn't hang on for victory.

Tactics and line-up:

Markus Gisdol sent out different sides in each half of TSG's first game of 2015. The team lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in both halves. There was a surprise in the first half – Kai Herdling started the game at left back. The starting line-up featured Grahl, Toljan, Abraham, Bicakcic, Herdling, Schwegler, Amiri, Zuber, Firmino, Salihovic and Modeste.

The team in the second period contained Schwäbe, Rieble, Strobl, Rapp, Beck, Rudy, Polanski, Volland, Hamad, Elyounoussi and Szalai. The formation brought with it plenty of intense play and attacking intent. The game was open, with both sides having plenty of chances. Before the game was over Janik Haberer and Kevin Akpoguma were also brought on.

Match highlights:

4th minute:The first chance of the game goes the way of TSG. Pirmin Schwegler finds Roberto Firmino. His shot from roughly 15 yards out is parried to safety by Arubi.

26th minute:Lovely play but the finish was missing. Firmino, Zuber and Modeste with some wonderful one touch football and the ball lands at the feet of the French striker. His shot beats Arubi, but goes agonisingly wide of the far post.

29th minute:Firmino lines up a shot from 30 yards out. Arubi is a mere spectator as the ball rebounds off the post to safety.

34th minute:First shot for the hosts. Mukamba only has Grahl to beat but his lob goes over the goalie and the bar.

50th minute:First chance of the second half goes to TSG. Adam Szalai shoots from inside the box with his right foot but Arubi saves. The goalkeeper has been the best player for the AmaTuks so far.

57th minute:Jiloan Hamad fires a shot in from around 25 yards. It's a great effort, but it misses by just a few feet.

58th minute:GOOOOAAAALLL! 1-0: TSG take the lead! Nico Rieble cuts in and crosses from the left wing. Adam Szalai is awake to the situation and fires home from close range to put his side in front.

61th minute:
GOAL. 1-1: Atusaye Nyondo, the hosts' striker, levels the scores from inside the area. He had space and time in the box and gave Schwäbe no chance.

65th minute:Nyondo has another shot. He aims for the bottom right corner and only narrowly misses.

66th minute:Great chance for TSG to regain the lead. Kevin Volland plays Adam Szalai in, but the keeper claims the ball before the Hungarian striker can capitalise. Pity.

68th minute:The AmaTuks have a great chance to go ahead in an open and exciting game. Mathosi lurks at the back post but heads narrowly over. Lucky escape for TSG.

75th minute:Big chance for Adam Szalai. The striker finds himself in plenty of space but his strike from close range is kept our by Arubi. The keeper also reacts well to the rebound.

Reaction from Markus Gisdol:

It was a good test against good opposition in extreme conditions. You could see the players becoming fatigued as the game went on. We wanted to make sure that individuals weren't burdened too much and consequently some players played in unfamiliar positions. The players will be able to catch their breath tomorrow.
