TSG accept German FA verdict on “ghost goal”

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim will not pursue further legal action after Monday's verdict from the German FA on a potential replay against Leverkusen. The club came to this conclusion after extensive discussions on Tuesday.

The German FA (DFB) have dismissed Hoffenheim's appeal against the 2-1 result from the Bundesliga match against Leverkusen on October 18th. TSG had requested a replay after Leverkusen's second goal entered through the side netting.

Reactions:

Peter Rettig, general manager: “After extensive discussions we have decided not to pursue further pleas against the result. This decision does not take away from the fact that we feel the verdict on the matter is the wrong message towards football as a whole. Nonetheless, we will accept this verdict, as we do not want to become obsessed with matters which are out of our control.”

Alexander Rosen, sporting director: “If we felt that a small chance existed to continue this plea, we would have pursued. That this possibility doesn't exist in the current system was unfortunately already noticeable in the days before the trial started. A sense of injustice remains.”

Manager Markus Gisdol: “Obviously I am disappointed, but not surprised. However, we will not dwell on this issue any longer and will start focusing on the upcoming tasks.”
