Volland fires Germany U21s to victory – Schröck eases to win

Sunday was a good day for the TSG players on international duty. Striker Kevin Volland helped the Germany U21s to a 2-1 win in Israel with a goal in injury time, while Stephan Schröck celebrated an 8-0 thrashing of Cambodia with the Philippines in an AFC Challenge Cup qualifier.

Volland, who was brought on at the break for Pierre-Michel Lasogga, was set up in the area by Patrick Herrmann in the 92nd minute and buried a shot under the crossbar.

Hoffenheim defender Stefan Thesker also made an appearance against Israel. He was included from the start in front of 4,500 spectators, before being subbed off in the 82 minute – one of eight substitutions in the second half as is often the case in friendly matches. “I'm delighted to have scored the winner but you can also see that there's a lot of work for us to do – both technically and tactically,” said Volland to achtzehn99.de.

TSG-midfielder Stephan Schröck had it a little easier with the Philippines in their AFC Challenge Cup qualifier in Manila. They brushed past a completely overwhelmed Cambodia side 8-0.

Schröck added his name to the scoresheet in the 46th minute. The game's outstanding player was Philip James Younghusband with four goals. The game was also interrupted for an hour due to a torrential downpour. Next on the agenda for Schröck's team is a deciding qualifier against Turkmenistan on Tuesday.
