VfB Stuttgart match reaction

Here is the match reaction following an unlucky 1-0 defeat to Stuttgart.

Marco Kurz: We didn't deserve to win today. We didn't play football in the first half. We can only apologise for the performance. The second half was a bit better but it was still very patchy. It's hard to explain conceding three early goals in a row. It's inexcusable in our situation. We have to get back on our feet quickly because there's a very big match against Augsburg coming up. There is absolutely no reason to be looking up the table now. It will be a real test of nerves in Augsburg – we'll have to face our fears. Every single one of our players will have to want to be better than every single one of theirs.

Andreas Beck: Unbelievable! We were desperate for the three points and we couldn't do it. We knew that it would be a hard fought game with lots of tackles flying in. We were lacking creativity and it got harder as the game went on.

Tobias Weis: We wanted to keep a clean sheet and that didn't happen. Instead we're playing catch up right from the start. The second half was better from us but we're left with a defeat. We have to pick up points as quickly as possible.

Kevin Volland: We didn't take our chances and we were too cautious. It's important to be focussed from the first second onwards. We have to start rewarding ourselves for the amount of effort we're putting in.

Matthieu Delpierre: When you're in a difficult situation like we are you have to put in a lot of effort and force some luck. Today we just gave the ball away too many times. We tried everything in the second half and created a few goalscoring opportunities but we have to do more.

Bruno Labbadia: It was an unbelievably important win for us, especially when you consider the path we've gone down over the past few weeks. We were tactically organised and made things tight. We knew that would make it difficult for Hoffenheim – they were under more pressure than us. We might have made it 2-0 but we couldn't find the final ball. The main thing is that we've bucked the trend.

Fredi Bobic: It was a deserved victory. The team put a lot into the game and were rewarded for that. The win gives us new self-confidence.

Vedad Ibisevic: We deserved it today. We knew it wouldn't be an easy game and it wasn't, but we showed a great deal of desire even when we made the odd mistake. Our commitment was the difference.

Sven Ulreich: We were desperate for three points. We defended really well and fortunately that was the key.
