Salihovic: “A home win would be incredibly important!”

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim play their final home game of the year in front of a sold-out crowd inside the WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar-Arena at 15.30 CET on Sunday. The visitors in Sinsheim will be defending Bundesliga champions, Borussia Dortmund. achtzehn99.de spoke to TSG midfielder Sejad Salihovic ahead of the game about the upcoming encounter and the significance of rounding off the year on a positive note.

TSG's home record against Dortmund is a good one and you even scored the winning goal in the last match. Is that a motivating factor?

We're already motivated playing against the German champions. Dortmund are always the clear favourites even when we're playing at home. We have to try and play against them with enough confidence.

The team has looked good in some of the games against big sides (Leverkusen, Schalke, Hannover). How do you rate your chances this time?

To put it simply, we haven't played well recently, but nevertheless we have to give our all to try and come away from the final game of the year with a home win.

Dortmund have been impressive in the Champions League this season, but they haven't been able to produce the same performances in the league. Why do you think that is? Do you think you've worked out the best way to approach the game?

You can't forget that they've obviously played a lot more games this season. Nevertheless, Dortmund have a brilliant team that is always dangerous. There's every chance that they will push Bayern right to the end of the season. I still think it's going to be an exciting title race. If possible, we have to try not to concede any goals and score one no matter what it takes. It would definitely have a positive effect on us if we took the lead.

How important would a positive result be in the last game before the winter break?

I think it would be really important for us all; for the club, for the fans and of course for our confidence ahead of the second half of the season. A win would be incredibly important for the lads and it would be even better to get it against Dortmund.
