Reaction against Borussia Dortmund

1899 Hoffenheim banished the memories of last weekend's disappointing performance as they beat league leaders Borussia Dortmund 1-0 with a truly resilient display. Here's what those involved had to say about the match:

Marco Pezzaiuoli: Today's match was important, and the win even more so, to re-establish a foundation to build upon. We were definitely the more active team in terms of challenging for the ball, and denied our opponents too many chances in the match. We were strong and compact at the back, did well at closing up the gaps and in the end deserved to win the match.

Jürgen Klopp: The game was set-up for a result like this. We were one step ahead of them in every department, but we didn't do enough with the opportunities we had. There were several reasons for this, the main one being Tom Starke. In the second half we weren't able to build on our first half performance and the game opened up. We still had chances to take the lead, but Hoffenheim took their chance when it came to them and grew in confidence following the goal. We were a little unlucky in the closing stages. At the end of the day, though, Hoffenheim deserved to win because they scored and we didn't.

Edson Braafheid: We believed in ourselves today and that's what allowed us to get this fantastic victory over Dortmund. We were the ones who were under pressure more often, but it didn't stop us going forward.

Ryan Babel: The team spirit today was fantastic. BVB are a very strong side, but we made it as hard as possible for them today. The build-up play to the goal was good and the support we got from the fans today was exceptional. With the combination of the Dortmund fans it created a really good atmosphere in the game.

Andreas Beck: We fought hard and held on until the end, which is super. In comparison to the match against Gladbach, we all stepped up our performances and gave everything we could and more in this match.

Roman Weidenfeller: We were far too complacent with our chances in front of goal today, but we won't let up under any circumstances. Sometimes we try and play the ball around a little too much.

Nuri Sahin: We just couldn't find a way to take the lead today and when they scored the opener it was very difficult for us to get back into the match given that Hoffenheim are a very good team and defended well until the end.

Neven Subotic: It was a very physical match with a lot of niggling fouls. Something was definitely missing today, which I'm sure we'll discuss during the week when we analyse the match to work out what we could have done better.
