Mingolsheim's unlucky 13 against 1899

1899 Hoffenheim got their pre-season underway with a resounding victory over local minnows TuS Mingolsheim on Saturday. Scoring 13 goals, the team got new head coach, Holger Stanislawski, off to a good start in his first match in charge.

Holger Stanislawski had to deal with a seriously depleted squad going into his first match as the new head coach of 1899 Hoffenheim. International representatives Chinedu Obasi, Vedad Ibisevic, Isaac Vorsah, Josip Simunic, Edson Braafheid, Sebastian Rudy, Peniel Mlapa, the returning Jukka Raitala and Gylfi Sigurdsson were all missing. Meanwhile, Andreas Ibertsberger, Boris Vukcevic, Manuel Gulde and Denis Thomalla are still recovering from the respective injuries meaning that the Hamburg native only had 15 players to choose from.

The new head coach didn't hesitate in demonstrating he was willing to shuffle the pack a little, but in their first competitive appearance the Bundesliga side left little to be desired. New signing Sven Schipplock made a big impression on his debut as he found the back of the net four times. Roberto Firmino followed suit with four off his own, while Ryan Babel (3) and Sejad Salihovic (2) both had quite an impact on the game as well. However, despite an impressive score line, Stanislawski wasn't fully satisfied with his new team's performance: “We got off to a great start, but there is still room for improvement all over the park. We're still lacking a bit of movement when we're in possession and often held onto the ball for too long. That wasn't what I had in mind, but it's completely normal at this early stage in our preparations. There were also several positives to take from this match.”

1899 Hoffenheim: Starke (46' Haas) - Beck, Jaissle (46' Vestergaard), Ruck, Compper (46' Johnson) – Weis (46' Kaiser), Salihovic, Firmino, Babel, Gyau – Schipplock.

Goals: 1-0 Firmino (1'), 2-0 Salihovic (10'), 3-0 Schipplock (16'), 4-0 Babel (44'), 5-0 Firmino (49'), 6-0 Schipplock (57'), 7-0 Firmino (62'), 8-0 Salihovic (66'), 9-0 Schipplock (68'), 10-0 Babel (69'), 11-0 Babel (77'), 12-0 Firmino (79'), 13-0 Schipplock (83').
