Reactions to the departure of Jan Schindelmeiser

After four successful years at 1899 Hoffenheim, Jan Schindelmeiser will be leaving the 1899 family on 30 June. Schindelmeiser, Ralf Rangnick and Dietmar Hopp gave their views on the decision in Sunday's press conference.

Jan Schindelmeiser
It wasn't an easy decision. The past four years in Hoffenheim have been extraordinary. I am truly thankful for the trust placed in me. I gave my all, but got even more back in return. When we first came together in 2006 and discussed the club's philosophy, we said it would be wonderful to be in the Bundesliga by 2011. Here we are in 2010 and already we're heading into our third year in the top flight. Still, I had the feeling I needed a change over the last few months and I came to a decision to leave in the last few weeks. I informed Dietmar Hopp of my decision, and he remains one of my biggest mentors. I can only say thank you for his unending trust.

Dietmar Hopp
Jan included me in his deliberations and informed me of his decision a good three weeks ago. Obviously we've been very busy in the mean time and we have put the feelers out to make sure we find a suitable successor in the near future. Ralf Rangnick has expressed no desire to take on a dual role like Felix Magath at Schalke. He is also helping us find the right person. We are losing a great person in Jan Schindelmeiser and we have plenty to thank him for after what he has achieved alongside Ralf Rangnick. I wish him all the very best.

Ralf Rangnick
I heard of his decision on Thursday. Not only has our job brought us together over the last four years, but also a personal friendship. I regret his decision, but I can understand it.
