Obasi: Tests should provide clarity

Chinedu Obasi seems to be a cursed man at the moment. The Nigerian international is currently unable to train with the squad due to a long standing injury, a stress fracture in his shin bone, and it is not yet clear when he will be able to return.

At the end of this week, Obasi will travel to Munich in order to undergo further investigations at the hands of specialist Dr. Seebauer. The hope is that the test results will clarify the situation and provide an accurate assessment of the injury as well as determining the best course of action for his recovery. The option of surgery is yet to be ruled out, although this could mean the Nigerian would spend a protracted period of time on the sidelines. "We're waiting for the test results to come in. We can then use the weekend to assess, how to go about getting Chinedu back to full fitness", explained Hoffenheim physio Dr. Henning Ott.

Obasi's stress fracture was discovered upon his return from representing Nigeria in this year's World Cup in South Africa. After a spell on the sidelines to recover, Obasi had been involved in recent weeks for 1899. However, the recovery time was hampered somewhat by these appearances and it looks like he might have re-aggravated the original injury, meaning he faces being out of action for the foreseeable future.
