Hoffenheim sign German U-19 international Mlapa

1899 Hoffenheim welcome their second new signing for next season: bought from second division side TSV 1860 München, Peniel Kokou Mlapa has made the move to Kraichgau.

Born in Lomé (Togo), the U-19 German national player scored 6 goals in his 21 appearances for the 1860 Lions, at international level Mlapa has played a part in 9 matches scoring once for his country so far. The striker, who is a staggering 1,93m tall was brought to the Munich club in 1999 and made the step up through the youth levels to the professional ranks. He put pen to paper on a three-year contract lasting until 30.06.2013 in Hoffenheim on Tuesday and will wear the number 15 shirt for the club.

"We are very pleased that Peniel has decided to make the switch to Hoffenheim", exclaimed manager Ernst Tanner. He continued by saying: "We are excited about the attacking qualities he brings to the club and what he has to show the Bundesliga. He is eligible as a German national and his potential is there to be seen and he meets our requirements for new players."

As for Peniel Mlapa, he had this to say about his move: "The conditions are optimal for me to move to Hoffenheim and take the next step in order to further my sporting and personal development. I know Ernst Tanner from his time in Munich, this, of course, influenced my decision. When I talked to Ralf Rangnick, what he had to say was very positive and I'm looking forward to my time at Hoffenheim.
