1899 in 2010: Opening an account against a former club

achtzehn99.de is taking a look back at 1899 Hoffenheim's 2010. What experiences have our players gained, which moments have stuck in their memories? How many unforgettable highlights did 2010 give us? Which set backs did the men from Kraichgau have to overcome? For the up-and-coming youngster Boris Vukcevic the month of May provided a memory that will be with him for the rest of his life.

May 2010 was the month that brought to an end another prolific Bundesliga season, with the last two Matchdays taking place on the 1st and 8th prospectively. Following a win against Eintracht Frankfurt, 1899 were gearing up to face VfB Stuttgart in the Baden Württemburg derby, which for some players is a particularly special match. Boris Vukcevic was one of them having moved to Hoffenheim from their local rivals the summer before. After 20 minutes VfB put themselves in front and thought they were going to hold on until half time, that was until Boris Vukcevic popped up. Here is how he tells the tale: "We won a corner and Sali stepped up to whip it in. I got up above everyone and managed to get my head on the ball to put it in the back of the net. Not only was it my first ever Bundesliga goal, but on top of that it was against my old club. It was a fantastic feeling!"
