Salihovic and Ibisevic lose first leg of play-off

Vedad Ibisevic and Sejad Salihovic suffered defeat with Bosnia at the hands of Portugal in Lisbon during the away leg of their World Cup qualifying play-off. Both Hoffenheim players played the full 90 minutes. Bosnia hit the woodwork three times.

On Wednesday, the Bosnians will be hoping to do better and overturn the 1-0 deficit to book a ticket to South Africa.

Meanwhile, Hoffenheim midfield maestro Carlos Eduardo was given his debut for Brazil. During the 1-0 victory over England, Carlos Eduardo replaced Kaka in the 82nd minute, and looked lively for the South Americans. Josip Simunic also played a full game as Croatia won a friendly against Liechtenstein by five goals to nil.

For defender Jukka Raitala it was another defeat as part of the Finnish Under-21 national side, this time a 1-0 defeat in Cordoba against Spain during the European Championships qualification. Raitala played the whole game at right full-back.

There was happier news for Chinedu Obasi and Nigeria. His side astonishingly came back in the last few seconds to beat Kenya 3-2 and snatch a spot at the World Cup. Obasi didn't play due to an injury.
