Baumann: "We need to keep our heads up"

Here's what the players and coaches had to say about TSG Hoffenheim's 2-1 defeat at SC Freiburg.

Oliver Baumann: "We need to keep our heads up. The game was good, we were solid and had some good moments going forward. But we cannot then end the match with 10 men. I felt that we were close and applying pressure. We had a really good foothold and gave hardly anything away. If the Freiburg players come up to me afterwards and admit that they totally got the rub of the green, that speaks volumes. The red card was the key moment, but then you have to defend the point by hook or by crook. We embraced the situation and took it in our stride. We will keep working hard and hopefully continue to improve so that we can end the negative run. When things are going like this, you need a lot of work and the details simply need to be right."

Angelo Stiller: "We produced a good performance. We were well in it and had a good feeling. We gave everything and were the better team in spells. I felt that we were able to pose a danger at any time. We showed good attacking power and Freiburg didn't have it easy. With a bit more luck, we could've scored one or two more goals and then things look very different here. The fact that we got an unnecessary red card at the end and then conceded the goal to make it 2-1 is unbelievably bitter."

Pellegrino Matarazzo: "We witnessed a decent performance from our team. Freiburg were very efficient, the sending-off was a key moment. Ozan is a fighter who always gives his all and is always very emotional. He is very sorry. We need to process this and improve our play in the final third. We need a different level of sharpness in our play. It was a defensively solid performance from us. It's not easy to defend against Freiburg but we did it well; we were also solid at set-pieces."

Christian Streich (SC Freiburg coach): "I knew what awaited us. It was clear that it'd be a very close game. Hoffenheim fully embraced the fight. We were sometimes imprecise with our passing, but Hoffenheim stopped a lot of moves in their tracks. We're in a phase in which we have to work hard. But when I look at the two teams, this was a game between equals. From a Hoffenheim perspective, you have to say that a point would've been deserved here. I wish Hoffenheim all the best. If you perform the way that Pellegrino's team did today, things will be fine come the end of the season."
