TSG sign striker Kasper Dolberg on loan

Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim have signed striker Kasper Dolberg on loan from French top-flight club OGC Nice until the end of the season. The 25-year-old Denmark international most recently played on loan at Sevilla in Spain's La Liga. Dolberg played all three of Denmark's matches at the World Cup which recently finished.

"Kasper is a centre-forward who stands out thanks to his intelligent style of play as well as his outstanding ball control, dynamism and a certain physicality," TSG's director of football Alexander Rosen said of the new signing. "He can pose a goal threat at any time by making clever runs and, in addition to his finishing abilities, he can hold the ball up well with his back to goal. We're convinced that he can add an element to our game that we do not have in that form in our squad and also, given our personnel situation in the attacking department, we're happy that the opportunity has arisen to bring in such a player."

Kasper Dolberg caught the attentions of the wider public at the 2021 European Championships, where he scored three goals in four appearances for his country and truly emerged as one of the rising stars of Danish football. TSG Hoffenheim had already tried to entice Dolberg to the Kraichgau in 2019. "We were already convinced by him then and did not lose sight of him the entire time. He knows the regard we hold him in here," added Rosen.

Dolberg moved from Silkeborg IF to the Ajax U19s in 2015. He quickly played himself into the spotlight with the Dutch giants' senior squad, scoring 45 goals and contributing 16 assists in 119 competitive appearances between 2016 and 2019. The transfer to OGC Nice in the summer of 2019 for whom he scored 24 goals across 85 competitive appearances in the subsequent three seasons was followed by a loan to Spanish Champions League participants Sevilla ahead of the current campaign. Dolberg made four appearances in both La Liga and the Champions League. He recorded one assist but failed to find the net.

While still a young player, Dolberg made his debut for Denmark's senior team in 2016, a year after joining Ajax. He has now made 40 appearances for his homeland, scoring 11 goals.

The 1.87m-tall attacker linked up with the team this Monday morning after completing his medical check and was reunited with his long-time friend Robert Skov. The Danish national team duo spent much of their youth career together at Silkeborg IF.
