Breitenreiter: "We want to force the turnaround"

Prior to TSG Hoffenheim's clash with Borussia Mönchengladbach (Saturday at 15:30 CET / Live Ticker at tsg-hoffenheim.de), head coach André Breitenreiter spoke about the opposition, the situation in the table and TSG's new signing John Anthony Brooks.

André Breitenreiter on…

…the start to the second half-season: "It can be a fresh start, especially after picking up a point in the last minute on Tuesday. We've also been active on the transfer market again. But I've also sensed that there's a spirit within the team and everyone is really raring to go and wants to force the turnaround."

…John Anthony Brooks: "Jay arrived yesterday. He can give us stability with his body language and experience. These are aspects we need. Especially when you always start a game well but then lose your way. Judging by the look of him yesterday, he won't need much time to bed in. We all need to work together to ensure we keep the simple mistakes to a minimum. Jay will help us a lot, definitely tomorrow too. At my previous clubs, I always hated playing against John Anthony Brooks because he always headed every ball away."

…the atmosphere in the team: "When we start every game well and dominate the opponent but then cannot keep it up after conceding an equaliser, there's naturally some uncertainty. But we still salvaged a point on Tuesday. The mood within the team continues to be good; we believed we could get a point against Stuttgart until the end. That's why I believe that with this spirit we can be very confident of winning the game tomorrow. I totally believe in that and in the team too."

…Borussia Mönchengladbach: "Gladbach have started off with two defeats. But I shall refrain from making statements from a distance about the opposition's expectations. The team have a lot of individual quality, that's undisputable. They have a possession-based philosophy and play a neat short passing game. If we allow them to do that a lot, it'll get tough. If we can prevent that, we can bring our strengths into play. We'll try to prepare the team well for the opponent in order to get the win."

The personnel situation:

In addition to long-term injury absentees Jacob Bruun Larsen and Grischa Prömel, TSG will be without the suspended Kevin Akpoguma and the injured Kevin Vogt, Robert Skov and Angelo Stiller on Saturday. Ihlas Bebou has come down with a cold in the past few days and a late decision will be made on his involvement.

Head-to-head record:

The two clubs are set for their 30th Bundesliga meeting on Saturday. Both sides have won nine matches, while there have been 11 draws too. But Gladbach have won the last two meetings.

The opposition's form:

Gladbach have started the new year with two defeats (3-2 at home to Bayer Leverkusen and 1-0 at FC Augsburg). In addition, coach Daniel Farke's team are still waiting for their first away victory of the season.
