#TSGFCB: Top match serves as a good omen

TSG Hoffenheim will welcome FC Bayern Munich to a sold-out PreZero Arena on Saturday (15:30 CET / Live Ticker at tsg-hoffenheim.de). This meeting between two of the top teams in the table represents a chance for André Breitenreiter to improve his record against the record champions – and previous top matches between the teams serve as a good omen. tsg-hoffenheim.de has compiled some interesting facts on the match against Bayern below.

Did you know that…

…the recent home record against Bayern has been strong?

TSG Hoffenheim have gone unbeaten against FC Bayern on home turf in both of the last two seasons (one win and one draw) and, since the 2016/17 season, have taken more points from their six Bundesliga home games against the record champions than any other club (10).

…this fixture will be a top match for the sixth time?

On five previous occasions, TSG Hoffenheim and FC Bayern Munich have gone into a Bundesliga meeting among the top four clubs in the table. Bayern have won only one of those fixtures (a 2-1 victory in December 2008), while there have since been three draws and one TSG win (1-0 in April 2017).

...Bayern have (by their standards) been waiting a long time for an away win?

FC Bayern have now failed to win their last three away matches – it is the longest winless streak the Bavarians have endured on the road since their four-match run from January to March 2012.

…André Breitenreiter is still waiting for his first point against Bayern?

The TSG head coach has lost all seven of his past Bundesliga matches against FC Bayern with his previous clubs (Paderborn, Schalke and Hannover). Only he and Jos Luhukay (against Leverkusen) hold a record of seven defeats from seven matches against a single opponent.

…the three most-experienced, currently active Bundesliga players could all be involved?

Oliver Baumann has played 403 Bundesliga games a tally surpassed by only two other current players: Manuel Neuer (475) and Thomas Müller (423). If Manuel Neuer is fit in time (he has been out with shoulder problems), the trio will have made over 1,300 Bundesliga appearances between them.

…TSG cross a lot, while Bayern hardly do?

TSG have already scored five goals from crosses the highest value in the league. Bayern, meanwhile, have not yet scored following a cross. TSG have also recorded the highest number of shots following crosses (30), which is more than twice as many as FC Bayern (15, 11th most in the league).

…both teams have good defensive records?

Only Union Berlin (6) have conceded fewer goals than FC Bayern (8) and TSG Hoffenheim (10). Bayern (36) and Hoffenheim (38) are also the two teams that have given away the fewest corners.
