Another defining game for Schalke

The media unanimously described the clash with TSG Hoffenheim on Friday as a defining game for S04 coach Frank Kramer, writing that another defeat was likely to seal his exit from Gelsenkirchen. And while TSG ran out comfortable victors on paper, the 3-0 defeat for Schalke did not see the tactician relieved of his duties. There was a clear reaction from the Royal Blues, who were by no means three goals worse than TSG under the floodlights – in the eyes of the powers-that-be at the club. That means: another game against Hoffenheim, another game with Frank Kramer in the dugout.

Schalke certainly looked a much-improved side compared to the matches that had come beforehand, with the Miners simply lacking the rub of the green. On two occasions the woodwork came to the defence of TSG, who scored two of their three goals from the penalty spot. "The boys showed that they are willing to show immense passion and wear their hearts on their sleeves," said Kramer after the loss.

Now it’s time for TSG and Schalke 04 to go head-to-head again – meaning the Miners will quickly have the chance to exact revenge for their defeat. For their part, TSG will be looking to prevent that and continue their successful season in the DFB-Pokal too. After all, recent campaigns in the cup have tended to be sobering for Hoffenheim, who have not reached the quarter-finals since 2014/15.

Various media outlets are reporting that it will be another defining game for Frank Kramer. His job will probably be at stake again in the Kraichgau – the place where he cut his teeth as a Bundesliga coach a decade ago.
