Narrow defeat in Dortmund

TSG Hoffenheim suffered a 1-0 (1-0) defeat away to Borussia Dortmund. Marco Reus fired BVB into the lead in the 16th minute, with the hosts subsequently spurning a number of scoring opportunities throughout the first half. The Kraichgau club improved significantly in the second period and created several chances, but André Breitenreiter's men were not able to take them and put themselves back on level terms. As a result, Hoffenheim's three-match winning run ended and they were condemned to defeat.

The scenario

Both TSG Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund had collected nine points from their opening four games. Hoffenheim had beaten Bochum (3-2), Leverkusen away (3-0) and Augsburg (1-0), losing only in Mönchengladbach on the opening day of the season (3-1). BVB, meanwhile, had defeated Leverkusen (1-0) and won away against SC Freiburg (3-1) and Hertha (1-0), but had tasted defeat at home to Bremen (3-2).

Line-up

André Breitenreiter again stuck with the same starting XI. Eduardo Quaresma came into the squad in place of Stefan Posch, who has joined Bologna on loan.

Number of the game: 3

TSG have fielded the same line-up in three consecutive matches – the first time they have done so in seven years.

Moment of the match

The goal for 1-0: Marco Reus rounded off a good move to score the decisive goal in the 16th minute.

Tactical tweak of the evening

The triple change at the break. André Breitenreiter reacted to BVB's strong showing and brought on Pavel Kadeřábek, Muhammed Damar and Sebastian Rudy for Robert Skov, Christoph Baumgartner and Dennis Geiger.

Outlook

TSG are next in action when they host 1. FSV Mainz 05 next week (Saturday at 15:30 CET). Mainz head into their Matchday 5 fixture in seventh place with seven points.
