Baumann: "One good half is too little"

Here's what the players and coaches had to say after TSG Hoffenheim's 1-0 loss at Borussia Dortmund.

Oliver Baumann: We gave away too much in the first half. We were lucky that it was only 1-0. We got considerably more into it after the break and were able to build pressure. We then showed a lot of what was missing in the opening half. There were also good scoring opportunities, but gilt-edged ones were lacking. It's a shame that we're going home with zero points. We would've needed to get into the game earlier to get a point. One good half is too little. But we'll carry over the positive feeling from the second half into next week."

Sebastian Rudy: "We lost too many balls in the final third, which allowed BVB lots of space. That made it difficult for us to get any control. Nonetheless, I believe we did not have a bad game – especially in the second half. But we were too imprecise in attack. It's very disappointing that we have not come away with more."

Grischa Prömel: "It was too little from us, in all respects. We completely gave the first half away, had too many simple possession losses and allowed too much space. We got into the game more in the second half, but unfortunately it was not enough to equalise. We made it difficult for ourselves today. Dortmund performed very well today; they won the 50-50 balls too. That's frustrating and difficult to defend against."

André Breitenreiter: "Dortmund are the deserved victors today. We were too flustered, too passive and too nervous in the first half. We lost simple balls and lacked the necessary precision. We can do better and we already managed to do better in the second half, especially in the final 30 minutes. I did not speak in superlatives after our wins and by the same token I will not badmouth everything today. We need to analyse things; self-criticism is of course required. I remain convinced we can have a good season. We need to learn from a match like today and do better next time."

Edin Terzic (Borussia Dortmund coach): "We produced a very good performance. Especially in the first half. That's what we set out to do. We wanted Hoffenheim to be too late into the challenges. To that end, we wanted to switch the ball quickly. We had a large number of scoring opportunities in the first half, that was really good. Unfortunately it no longer worked so well after the break. We gave too many balls away, we were a lacking energy a bit at that point. If we'd been slightly clearer with the counter opportunities, our composure would have returned. But we were very solid defensively."
