Vogt: "It'll be a tough test"

Having joined TSG Hoffenheim in 2016, Kevin Vogt is entering his seventh pre-season with the club. Prior to the friendly against 1. FC Heidenheim (Saturday at 15:30 CET), the 30-year-old defender spoke about the first weeks of training under new head coach André Breitenreiter and the opposition on Saturday.

Kevin, how were the first two weeks of training under André Breitenreiter?

"They were very intense days which did us good. That's a good foundation for the upcoming season. He has a positive aura and gives the team a lot of energy. After the first weeks, I'm feeling very positive about the season."

On Saturday, you played your first pre-season friendly. After the break, were you looking forward to the game?

"A match is always something different. It can't be simulated in training either. In pre-season, it's about showing the content that has been conveyed on the pitch. The result is secondary for the time being; the team has to try to implement the ideas from training. The match was fine considering it was the first week of pre-season. We are only at the beginning, but every friendly match helps us to see how far along we are."

How good is it to now have the international players, who had an extended holiday, back in training too?

"It of course helps us that they are with us now. They were not called up by their countries for nothing; their presence makes for an even higher quality in our sessions. We also now have the squad back together and want to internalise the required processes."

The second friendly is coming back on Saturday. What are you expecting from the game against 1. FC Heidenheim?

"Heidenheim are obviously much further along with their pre-season; they have their first competitive game in a week. With that in mind, for me it's more about implementing the new coach's instructions. That's more important to me than the result. It'll be a tough test after an intense week of training. We're looking forward to it."
