Breitenreiter: ''We're raring to go for our first game''

Here we go again: ahead of the first competitive match of the new season away to SV Rödinghausen in the DFB-Pokal (Sunday, 15:30 CET), head coach André Breitenreiter fielded questions from the media and discussed the opposition, being the favourites and his objectives in the cup.

André Breitenreiter on…

…the opposition: ''Rödinghausen have progressed really well over the last few years. They almost achieved promotion to the 3. Liga recently and are an ambitious Regionalliga club. I know their coach, Carsten Rump, on a personal level. We've spent a bit of time together over the years and went up against each other frequently in our playing days.''

…being the favourites: ''The cup has its own rules. We have been preparing very intensively for Rödinghausen and will have to be at our best right from the start so that we don't give the underdogs a sniff. We want to make it clear right from the first kick of the ball that we are the Bundesliga team and that we intend on advancing to the next round.''

…Sunday's game: "I am really looking forward to the first game. We have been preparing for a few weeks now and we are raring to go. I'm not getting bogged down with negative thoughts; I'm looking for solutions that will help us move on to the next round. This is a must for us, even though we have the utmost respect for Rödinghausen. My team have been really impressive in training. If we can reproduce that in the game, then we'll be booking a place in the next round."

…his goals in the DFB-Pokal: ''We want to set our sights high in this competition. I've never managed to get very far in the cup as a coach, but the luck of the draw is always part of it. As a player, I won the DFB-Pokal in 1992 with Hannover 96. It was a great moment.''

…Ozan Kabak: ''He went through a complete pre-season programme with Schalke, but only played 45 minutes in the friendly matches. Ozan will travel with the team and will soon be a very important option for us. In Rödinghausen, however, he will sit on the bench. He is too new to the group to play right away.''

The personnel situation:

Ihlas Bebou (knee problem), Dennis Geiger, Ermin Bičakčić and David Raum (all in rehabilitation training) are unavailable. Otherwise, head coach André Breitenreiter has the entire squad at his disposal.

The opposition's form:

SV Rödinghausen got off to a winning start in the new season, beating the 1. FC Köln U23s 5-0 on the opening day of the Regionalliga West. The result put the East Westphalians in first place in the table, which admittedly does not mean much after just one round of fixtures.

Head-to-head record:

This is the first time that TSG Hoffenheim and SV Rödinghausen have played each other. The Regionalliga club have never faced TSG in either a friendly or a competitive match to date.
